If you ‘re lucky enough to be in New York City during Fashion Week, February 11-18, why not do something for charity and see a fashion show at the same time? A limited number of standing room only seats are available to American Express cardholders for Naomi Campbell’s charity fashion show and auction, Fashion for Relief Haiti 2010. The star-studded runway show and auction will be held in aid of CARE at this year’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on February 12th at 7:00 pm to raise funds towards rebuilding Haiti’s healthcare system for mothers and children.

The runway show will be hosted by Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York and will feature internationally-renowned personalities in the fields of fashion, music, film, TV, sports and society. The show will highlight glamorous clothes by the world’s most well-known and respected fashion designers and all donated garments will be auctioned online at NET-A-PORTER starting February 15th. Your donation is tax deductible and 100 percent of ticket sales will benefit charity.

Established four years ago to demonstrate the kind of contributions the fashion community can make, the first Fashion For Relief™ show was held in 2005 during New York’s Fashion Week and raised more than $1 million for Hurricane Katrina relief.

Here Comes the Sun …

At the time of this writing, our part of the world is socked in under two feet of snow. We haven’t seen the sun in days and don’t know when we will again. We want to see something bright and sunny right about now. Perhaps you do too.

As designers, models, editors, photogs and fashionistas descend on NYC next week to show off their Fall/Winter 2010 designs, we’ve got our eye on what you’ll be wearing in just a few weeks. (Not to worry. We’ll report on the highlights of Fall Fashion Week too.) While the colors of the coming season get their inspiration from tropical waters, we’re in the mood for a bit of sun. Blame it on the snow …

Many of the Spring 2010 collections include pieces that run the color gamut from bright yellow to butterscotch to chartreuse and are a perfect counterpoint to the various hues of blues so many designers favored. For some of the best of the brightest, check out INC International Concepts Collection, at Macys. The line is not only spot on when it comes to color, but their feminine and often ruffled separates are flattering to many body types and on trend for the season. Eye Cream, You Cream, We All Cream For …

Too much? Well, we got your attention, right?

A reader in Calgary asked us to write about, yup, eye creams. We understand her confusion about them. There are so many on the market, how do you really know which ones work and which ones don’t?

Before you plunk down your money, here are a couple of things you might want to try:

Head to a department store and check out the cosmetics counters to see what’s new or tried and true. Ask the sales associates for samples – some manufacturers make them available for testing before you buy, especially if you’re a regular and the sales associates know you. Often, eye creams are packaged as a Gift with Purchase (GWP). These are great if you happen to be purchasing something from that manufacturer’s line. (We’re hooked on Gifts with Purchase and always try to take advantage of them. Hello, Clinique!)

Check out magazine websites, such as Allure.com and Glamour.com, for reader reviews and editor’s picks. These can be an invaluable source of help and information.

We love Sephora.com and rely on their user reviews before we buy product. Search for eye creams and skim the reviews.

Ok, so what’s in our cosmetic bag?

Right now, we’re loving Wrinkle Magic. While we don’t necessarily consider it a treatment cream, it effectively smoothes out under eye wrinkles instantly, albeit temporarily and brightens the eye area. It should be used judiciously or it can look flakey, but with a little practice, it’s pretty amazing. Cost is $30. for a .075 ounce tube at ShopNBC.com. (As of this writing, it was sold out, alas.)

Clinique All About Eyes – This lightweight yet rich eye cream does the job without feeling sticky. A recipient of Glamour Magazine’s 2009 Readers’ Choice Awards, this product gets consistently rave reviews. A jar sells for $28.50 and is available either at a Clinique counter or from Clinique.com. (We confess that we got ours as part of a GWP but will definitely purchase when we run out.)

Benefit – Ooh, Benefit Cosmetics, how do we love thee? We can’t even count the ways, they’re so numerous. Eyecon helps to fade dark circles and smooth fine lines with yummy ingredients like sweet almond and apple fruit. Available for $30. at Benefitcosmetics.com or a Benefit counter near you.

Bliss The Youth As We Know It™ Eye Cream – We haven’t tried this one yet but the reviews on Sephora.com are encouraging. It’s $75. for an 0.5 ounce jar.

DHC – We’ve been loyal to DHC for so many years, we should be on the cover of their catalog. They sell a wide range of eye care products and one we love is Extra Nighttime Moisture cream. Fortified with collagen and containing olive oil, squalane and a host of other emollients, this cream helps us wake up looking refreshed. It’s $32.50 for a 1.5 ounce jar and is available at dhccare.com. We also couldn’t live without DHC’s Olive Virgin Oil. While not technically an eye cream, we slather this stuff all over our faces and necks and, after only a couple of weeks of use, received a slew of compliments on our skin’s new “glow.” And yes, we have considered bathing in it. It’s $39. for a fluid ounce at DHCCare.com.

Spanx for Men? They’re Brand Smackin’ New!

Spanx, the ubiquitous undergarment that tames women’s bumps and bulges – and does it quite comfortably, thank you – is expanding to include a men’s line. That’s right. Launched earlier today, Spanx for Men consists of three styles of cotton compression undershirts that, according to the company’s website, “will forever change the way your favorite man looks and feels in his clothes.” Prices are $55. for the tank and $58. for either the crew or v-neck tee. The tees, which promise to banish belly bulge and smooth love handles, are currently available for pre-order at spanx.com and will be in stores on March 15.

Barbie Gets Dolled Up by CFDA

Who doesn’t love Barbie? We surely do and now we can add to our collection and benefit charity at the same time. To celebrate the launch of its Barbie Basics Collection, in which Barbie is dressed in that most classic of all styles, the little black dress, Mattel teamed up with The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and asked twelve of their members to customize one of the dolls. Designers include Justin Giunta (Subversive Jewelry), Phillip Crangi, Tory Burch, Alexis Bittar, Monica Botkier, Betsey Johnson, Isaac Mizrahi, Devi Kroell, Albertus Swanepoel, Rachel Roy, Deborah Lloyd of Kate Spade and Lorraine Schwartz. The one-of-a-kind Barbie dolls are being auctioned off on Ebay.com through February 7th. Bidding began at $100 per doll but a recent peek showed the Devi Kroell Barbie with a bid of $1075. Isaac Mizrahi’s and Rachel Roy’s dolls had bids in the $300 range. Lorraine Schwartz’s Barbie, which at the time of this writing was selling for $4100, sports $25000 of genuine diamonds. One hundred percent of the proceeds benefit the CFDA’s scholarships and initiatives.

Gray Hair “Cure” in the Works

Heads up everyone who’s had it with salon- or self-coloring your gray tresses. L’Oreal, the beauty mega giant, hopes to offer a treatment that will return gray hair to its original color and luster. While this sounds like the stuff that science fiction (and dreams) are made of, don’t get too excited yet. The treatment, which L’Oreal expects will contain both an oral component as well as a range of hair care products, is still about ten years away.

Say Hello to Thicker Hair

Will There be a Fashion’s Night Out TV Show?

Fashion’s Night Out organizers, which include the Council of F ashion Designers of America (CFDA) and Vogue Magazine, have approached Bravo and CBS to discuss the possibility of developing a television show about the September event, according to The New York Post’s Page Six. FNO, which was held this past September, rocked cities around the world. Timed to kickoff New York’s Fashion Week, and to spur sales in a sluggish economy, the event drew crowds of fashionistas, celebrities, designers and models to New York’s myriad stores where the champagne flowed and the beautiful people reigned. The next Fashion’s Night Out will be held on September 10, 2010. Mark your calendars …

Move Your Butt!

Research from a recent study conducted in Switzerland indicates that women who sit for long periods of time increase their risk of metabolic disease by 26 percent. And here’s the kicker – this was evident even if they regularly engage in a plan of moderate to vigorous exercise. Yikes! The scientists who performed this study recommend that, if you will be sitting for extended periods, you get up periodically and move your butt. Walk up and down the stairs. Take a walk around the block. Just keep that metabolism in gear.
