Welcome to my blog. I’m Melody Lesser and I’ve been writing for the fashion and beauty industries for many years. My words have appeared in Glamour, Bride’s, Harper’s Bazaar and Family Circle Magazines. I was the Fashion and Lifestyle Editor for Philadelphia Style Magazine and I’ve freelanced for many other national, regional, consumer and trade publications as well as for several internet sites.
The purpose of this blog is to celebrate women – women of every age, shape and size. I think it’s fair to say that we live in a youth-obsessed culture. As we age, we tend to become overlooked and many of us start to feel like an invisible woman. A good friend of mine tells a compelling and not unusual story. My friend, a beautiful woman of about 45, was pumping gas in the pouring rain. A young girl was at the next pump. A middle-aged man drove up to the pumps and, after sizing up the situation, came dashing out of his car, opened his umbrella and raised it over the young girl’s head to protect her from the rain. My girlfriend, who although she would have thanked and rebuffed the stranger’s kindness had he shown it to her, said she felt ugly and completely invisible. It was a revelation to her. She said she still felt as vibrant and attractive as she had at the age of 25. She just didn’t look 25 anymore. Conversations with other friends reveal similar, if not as dramatic, stories.
We’ve all heard of “passing the torch” and I have two smart and amazing daughters to whom I am happy to pass the torch – as soon as I am ready. But I am not ready yet and I don’t know when I will be. I do not want to fade into invisibleness as I get older. I do not want to become a forgotten woman. And I don’t know anyone who does.
This blog is for women everywhere who want to look as vibrant and as beautiful as they feel. This blog is to celebrate you.
What a wonderful idea. I look forward to being inspired, excited, and informed!
Thanks for creating this blog. I love the concept that we are not ready to fade into oblivion… because we are not!
Love the blog! Now only if you could write some of my text books…maybe then I’d be engaged long enough to learn from it!
